Patty Twyman

I am married and have 2 children and 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. My husband and I were called to start a work in Alabama. We have been pastoring there since 1987 and we have seen over 1600 people filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus name. Unfortunately, not everyone embraces the apostolic doctrine and we don't have a really big church. We are also children's evangelists and enjoy doing children's camps and kids crusades. We just love working for the Lord. yus7sp

On October 7, 1973, at Christ Apostolic Church, in Louisville, Kentucky, a beer-drinking, guitar-picking sinner was at an altar pouring out his heart to Jesus. Just that morning his wife had received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Their lives would never be the same. Jesus had called him from the nightclubs and bar rooms. No longer would he use his talents for the world. It was time for Hugh and Patty Twyman to serve Jesus. At that same time in Montgomery, Alabama, a group of preachers were targeting Alexander City to send a preacher to start a United Pentecostal Church. But it was not until 13 years later during Thanksgiving weekend that Hugh and Patty Twyman, along with their daughter, Sheree, heard the voice of God in their ears as they drove through Alexander City, Alabama: "This is your city."Later, they came to realize that at the very same time, Rev. and Mrs. Timothy Mitchell and missionaries, Rev. and Mrs. Stuart Lassiter, were driving around the Montgomery area praying for God to send Apostolic preachers to Alabama. In June, 1987, the Twyman family started services in Alexander City. Their son, Hugh Jr. and his wife had moved to Alabama to help build the church also. Rev. and Mrs. H. Ray Perry, their pastor and his wife from Louisville, preached their first dedication service in a small storefront building. During the dedication, a prophecy came forth that the congregation would inhabit buildings that "the Egyptians" had built. We continued in the small storefront for two years and then we were able to rent a much larger building, actually a complex of buildings, one of which had been transformed into a sanctuary, Sunday school rooms, office, and fellowship hall. Here we were able to start a Christian school. For seven years we worked and watched diligently for property for a building, but nothing seemed right for us. In May, 1996, during a revival meeting, the evangelist preached on "Build God a House." At the end of the service we received from our small congregation $10,000 in pledges, to be paid in 30 days. Since none of these people had this kind of money, their pledges were definitely an act of faith. Six days after the revival, one family came to our home and wrote the church a check for $22,000. Their pledge was $5,000; the rest was tithes. That evening when this couple checked their mailbox, they had an income tax refund of $5,000. During the prayer meeting at church that same evening, a man testified that he had received a check in the mail from a company that he had worked for about 13 years earlier. The company had been sold and the new owners realized that they owed this man some profit-sharing dividends. He paid his pledge of $1,000 and tithes of $260. By the end of the sixth day, we had received $7,000 of the pledge money. God is a miracle-working God! We began to pray and look for property, assured that God had it all under control. Bro. Twyman found a building that had been empty for about two years. It had 10,000 square feet and was located on four acres. The building had been built in 1987; it had housed an elite nightclub that became a policeman's nightmare, with fighting, drugs, and even fatal shootings. With much bargaining and the help of the Lord, we were able to purchase the building, which had an estimated value of 350,000 for 165,000. The owner allowed us to pay $5,000 down and $600 a month for five years, all of which went toward the principal with no interest. At the end of five years, he carried the mortgage at prime rate plus 2%. What a miracle! We cleaned, painted, repaired, and made a beautiful sanctuary for Alexander City Apostolic Church. As a reminder of what God had done for us, we left a couple of bullet holes and the overhead dance floor lights. On July 11, 1997, our former pastor and wife, Rev. and Mrs. H. Ray Perry, dedicated the beautiful facility that the "Egyptians" built to the service of the Lord. The city police chief, who attended the service, made this statement;"I have been here many times before and not one time did anyone come out, shake my hand, and welcome me as they have tonight. We were always here to break up a fight. I have always wanted to step up here and say, "Praise the Lord in this place!' I'm glad to see it as a place of worship." The church has become the talk of the town. People say, "Oh, I know that church! That's where the nightclub used to be. You're the ones who turned that club into a church." One person remarked, "Who would be better to start a church in a nightclub than a man that God has delivered from these things?" Miracles? Jesus took a beer-drinking, guitar-picking sinner, pulled him out of the nightclubs, filled him with the Holy Ghost, gave him a calling and a message, and led him to a city where God transformed a nightclub into a temple of worship. God can do anything!
