I was at the post office recently and read a really great quote, it said it didn’t matter how much you gather, but how much you scatter, that is how you can tell about a life…wow! Maybe that only struck me, but it was on my mind all day after I saw it, It was one of those defining moments, it touched my soul deep down, and I kept asking myself, how much do I scatter, or am I merely a gatherer?
When we see someone in need do we just bless them verbally then send them on their way? Daily you will come across people who you need to scatter around, love and forgiveness, and LOTS of empathy and compassion. The world we live in just uses and abuses people until they are broken. When a vase breaks it needs to be glued back together, well in that same concept the high calling of God will cause us to scatter what is needed to “glue” them back together. When you scatter seeds of love, compassion, & forgiveness without any hesitation you will find those things when you need them, I have been on the receiving end of this too many times to count!
A gatherer is one who is increased in goods, because most of the
things they gather are used for their own, it reminds me of the man that had increased his barns, but that night he was going to die and even all the stuff he had would not save him, oh I want to scatter, not gather ….we sit in our churches service after service just gathering for ourselves, but how often do we go out and scatter the words we just heard to those in need?
I’m not a really big fan of ants, but they teach this concept so well, the workers gather the food, then they scatter it to the queen and the others then when everyone is fed they eat, that is why when you put out ant baits the workers are always the last to go, because they are taking care of the others…we need to put this concept into our hearts and minds, we need to take care of everyone else with the things we gather, not keep it for ourselves.
In the times mentioned in the Bible where the crowds were fed by Jesus I don’t remember reading how the disciples and Jesus were the first to eat, but they did go and gather the leftovers for later to feed the people that needed it again!
When my time comes to step into eternity I want those I left behind to think of me as a person who scattered all I had, and the times I did gather was to help someone else!
I love y’all…
