Building Right or Building Wrong

John Clardy

Psalms 127:1   Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

A wealthy man once had a desire to help persons in need.  One day he noticed the miserable conditions in which a certain poor carpenter lived.  He devised a plan whereby he might assist the man and his family.

The rich man commissioned the carpenter to build him a beautiful house.  "I you to use only the best materials, employ only the best workmen, and spare no expenses," he told the carpenter.  He then told the carpenter he was going on a journey; and he expressed the desire that it be completed by the time he returned.

The poor carpenter saw this as his great opportunity; therefore, he skimped on materials.  He hired inferior workers at low wages and covered their mistakes with paint.  He cut corners wherever possible.  Having been paid in advance for the best materials, he knew he would make a nice profit.

When the rich man returned, the carpenter brought him the key and said, "I have followed the blueprints to the letter."

"I’m glad," said the rich man.  Handing the key back to the builder, he continued.  "Here are the keys, they are yours.  I had you build this house for yourself.  You and your family are to have it as my gift."

In the years that followed, the carpenter never ceased to regret the way in which he had cheated himself.   "Had I known," he often said to himself, "that I was building the house for myself?"

The meaning is clear!  The way we build now will determine where we will live eternally!  If we prepare Jesus Christ an abiding place here, he will prepare us an eternal abiding place!

Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like two men who built houses – one built on the rock, the other on the sand.  When the storm came only the house that was built right stood. There is only one way to build!  The right way!  The Bible way is the only way!

He that hears and obeys the word of god is wise!  His house shall stand!  Why?  Because Jesus Christ is the architect!

What did David say?  "Except the Lord build the house, they that build labor in vain!" We must build and prepare right! The new birth is the only plan of  building a life eternal!

John 3:5  Except a man be born of the water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God!

1 Corinthians 3:11  For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Are you building right or building wrong?  Will you be deemed fit to be a tabernacle of God or are you building haphazardly?  Let the Lord be the master builder of your life and you can be confident that you will pass that final inspection!
