Night Goggles Not Needed!!!

John Clardy

Psalms  139:11-12

11         If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

12         Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Have you ever heard about someone who seemed to be an honest, upstanding citizen being involved in some violent act of criminal behavior that shocks everyone that knew that person?  Have you even said, “That just goes to show you that no one knows what goes on behind closed doors?”  Nothing could be further from the truth. There is no such thing as a secret or hidden sin.

I won’t argue that there are many things that you and I are unaware of. There is a plethora of things that go on behind closed doors that are never made public. In fact, there is some downright ugly stuff behind some of our closed doors.  Those that we see professionally or publicly may not see the unmasked and unedited we really are.

Las Vegas has a popular marketing slogan that says, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” If we are not careful we will buy into that thought process and believe that what we do in secret stays a secret. But Jesus said, “Your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.”  This is not only true of good, but it is true of evil also!  God is a God of openness and revelation.  He reveals righteousness and openly rewards it; He also exposes evil and openly judges it!

Romans 2:16 says the day will come when “…God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ…”

Some people think that God suffers from night blindness or that He is restricted by the dark. The Bible tells us that men love the darkness because their deeds are evil. They feel that the darkness hides them, that God can’t know and they won’t get caught. Wrong! You can’t close the door and turn out the lights and think you can keep it from God!   He has 20/20 vision in the day and the night.  His Word discerns and divides in the dark as well as the light. He doesn’t need night goggles. God has excellent night vision. The darkness and light are both alike to Him!

Hebrews 4:13   And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (NKJ)

God is watching! God is listening! God knows everything that happens behind your closed doors and in the dark places in your life. What you do there won't stay there. You will meet it on Judgment Day.  John tells us that His eyes are like a flame of fire! When you stand before Jesus Christ those fiery eyes will discern the thoughts and intents of your heart and "bring to light what is hidden in darkness" (1 Corinthians 4:5).

Don’t try to secret your sin behind closed doors or try to hide it in darkness.  The only way to escape the penalty of sin is to do the exact opposite of what this world and your adversary wants you to do!  Openly confess it!  Openly repent of it!  Bring it into the light!

1 John 1:9   If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
