Middle
"C"
By John Clardy
Psalms 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in
heaven.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my
words shall not pass away.
Lloyd
C. Douglas, author of The Robe and other novels lived in a boarding house when
he was a student. On the first floor of the house there lived a retired music teacher
who was confined to a wheelchair. Every morning as Douglas went down stairs he
would stick his head in the music teacher's room and ask his friend; "What's
the good news?"
The
music teacher would respond the same way each day by striking a tuning fork against
the side of his wheelchair and saying; "Middle C! Hear that? It's middle
C! It was middle C yesterday, its middle C today, and it will still be middle C
a 1,000 years from now. The tenor upstairs sings flat, the piano across the
hall is out of tune, but my friend that is still middle C!"
God's
Word is our middle C. Just like middle C could be counted on by the music
teacher to be middle C always and forever, so too can we count on God’s Word
always and forever. It will accomplish
what it was sent to do. Every promise is
yea and amen!
Isaiah 55:10-11
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the
snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh
it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the
eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth
out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that
which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are
yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Here
are some other middle C’s from the Word of God!
Psalms 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his
promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not
willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to
day, and for ever.
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift
is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without
repentance.
God
is good all the time. That is more than
a cute slogan or catchy saying. It is an
eternal truth! He will never cease to be good!
David said His goodness would
follow after us all the days of our lives.
James said everything that is good is from God.
With God there is no
variableness (fickleness) or shadow of turning. There is not even the slightest
suggestion that God will ever change! Everything that God has ever been, He will always be. His goodness and mercy are from everlasting
to everlasting. Everything else may seem
flat or out of tune in our lives, but we can rest assured that God’s Word is a
middle C. It was yesterday, It is today and It will be forever.
