What are you delivering daily to those around you?

"I Wanna Be a Mailman!"

While preparing my three boys for going ‘back to school’ this fall, my thoughts have been on my own early childhood education.  My thoughts trail through favorite teachers, best friends, and events that happened through the years.  One fond memory I cherish is playing “Charades” in Kindergarten.  I was good at it!  I’m a natural born drama queen of sorts.  Our teacher instructed us to act out what we wanted to be when we grew up.  When my turn came around, I enthusiastically began opening and closing make believe mailboxes and inserting mail.  I would sort through my bag of mail on my shoulder and then continue to fill the boxes up and down the street.  No one could guess what I wanted to be by my actions.  I was frustrated!!  I was doing such a good job!  Finally when I was able to speak and tell them who I was they all agreed I did great and they would have acted it out just like I did.

Fast forward 35 years after Kindergarten.  My profession isn’t a Mailman or ‘Mail Person’ as our society would say today.  However, my spirit has been questioned along the lines of what kind of “mail” am I delivering to my family, co-workers, church family, and neighbors on a daily basis?  Do I just go through the motions and not share God’s mail with those around me?  Or do I constantly give them junk mail to deal with?  Do people get it that I’m a Christian and living in accordance with God’s Word?  Can they tell by my conversation that I’m God’s delivery person?  Am I delivering the goods?  Honestly, no I’m not delivering the “mail” I should be 100% of the time.  However, I am working on it by actually stopping long enough to pray for someone when I tell them I will.  I’m working on listening and following through rather than being caught up in my own agenda.  I try to do as much as I can everyday for others to further God’s Kingdom.  I haven’t totally grown up yet.  But, when I grow up I still what to be a mailman, God’s mailman!
