Scripture Text:
Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank
wine before the thousand. Daniel 5:1 KJV
King Belshazzar had a
great feast. He invited one thousand of his lords to this lavish feast.
Belshazzar tasted the wine, and he had ordered vessels of gold and silver be
brought to the palace so that all of them could drink from the vessels. These
vessels were stolen by Nebuchadnezzer from the temple along with other things.
In the Word of God it records, They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold,
and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone (Daniel 5:4 KJV). All
of a sudden a hand appeared on the wall. The hand started writing on the wall
in front of all of them. King Belshazzar was so shocked that his expressions
changed immediately. The Word of God records the writing of the wall. And this is the writing that was written,
“MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN” (Daniel 5:25 KJV). Not one of the astrologers,
advisors, Chaldeans, or soothsayers was able to interpret the writing on the
wall. The king sent for Daniel to see if he could interpret the writings. The
interpretation for MENE, was ‘’God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished
it.’’ The meaning of TEKEL, was ‘’ Thou art weighed in the balances, and art
found wanting’’ The meaning of UPHARSIN, was “Thy kingdom is divided, and given
to the Medes and Persians.” King Belshazzar clothed Daniel with scarlet and put
gold chains around his neck, and he became the third ruler in the kingdom. That
same night King Belshazzer was slain, and his Babylonian Empire was
overpowered. Sin will take us farther than we want to go. When we play with
sin, it will soon take over us. The Lord gives us all chances to do
better. Do we take the time He gives us? Lord helps us all be more like
him.
Our words can be a motivator, whether we realize it or not, whether you mean to or not. Our words can bring life, or it can cause someone to take their own life. While we all still alive, let’s make our days count for something!- Lynne Conley My life consists of working full-time at a pharmaceutical company and teaching Sunday school (Kindergarten class) My desire is to encourage others. My writings aren’t fancy words, but they are from the Lord. So many people are hurting, and I want to help all I can while I am still alive. My passion is elderly people and those who are shut-ins. There is a nursing home, Carrington Place, in the next county from where I live. After working 8-10 hrs a day, I go and spend time with those who have no one or just to talk and hear their stories every Thursday after work. Every Thursday is Thankful Thursday to me. Because I am so Thankful for this great calling the Lord has given me.
